This site was a re-platform from an existing Rails site.
I was not responsible for any front-end development (except for a a few jQuery flourishes).
In addition to complete functional replication of existing features, it was necessary for me to script the migration of a MySQL database into a PostgreSQL DB with a substantially different schema.
I have also enhanced site search by integrating Haystack on Solr. Previously, there was a simple SQL search function, which was of limited use. Food Channel's new search engine features faceted navigation and query highlighting. Best of all, it's FAST.
On top of everything else, we added memcached, as there was previously no server-side caching of any kind. This gives us freedom to use neat (but normally slow) features like Count(), which allowed me to enable faceted browsing for recipes.
